Celebrated gran's 71st birthday tonight. 71! Who knows what i'll be doing at 71: whether i still got teeth, hair and great-grandchildren. :# maybe i'll be senile, going around smacking asses of fellow old folks even.

My grandmother, Mdm Lau Siew Kheng

Being the 2nd grandchild & the first grandson, i grew up with gran's shower of affections; a novelty only the first 5 grandchildren enjoyed to the max.

Weekly gifts, kisses, hugs & painstakingly home-cooked meals for the entire maternal family. Rain or shine, each week the family met up. And unlike my dad's side, we caught up with each other over family videos, dinners, vacations, festive seasons. There was never a dull time, even when there were family disputes.

Growing up was never dull. Not in this Lau family.

Gran even made us exclusive handsewn quilt blankies for each of us grandchildren. No designer wear can ever beat that.
